Deer

I hope you all had a nice weekend. Right now, my husband is butchering a couple deer. LOL Dave and my dad went deer hunting this weekend. My dad got a nice big buck and Dave got a big buck with little antlers. :)

Poor Taran was in bed by the time the guys got home. I know he would of loved to see them! Kellon was a little hesitant but ready for a photo op.

Dave was able to get a permit that allowed him to get 2 deer...I must say the deer have been very bad this fall. 99% of the time I have a couple jump out in front of my car on the way to work at night. Some areas there are too many so a double permit is allowed. Dave got a doe also on Sunday.

Today, Dave took the day off and will attempt his first deer butchering experience. He had several Cabella's/Shields gift cards and bought supplies for this event. Being very "limited" this year, Dave knew he had to try it on his own instead of paying someone to process it for us. The freezer will be full and I see many deer roasts in our future. LOL

Backing up a bit, my blog bud, Sarah and I, went to a primitive open house on Thursday night. There are so many open houses popping up this time of year and had to invite Sarah to one in my neck of the woods. Sarah posted pictures of us HERE. We had a great time! We shopped and drank wine. I got this wonderful prim light. There were other goodies there, but this kept on catching my eye.

It was great to see Sarah again. She is a wonderful person! We only live 20 minutes from each other so we definitely need to see each other more often. Life and kids keep us busy...but hopefully soon!

I was watching the weather channel earlier today and saw snow in what I thought was your area. Is is earlier than normal for y'all to be getting snow??
That is great about the deer. My husband hunts and the property dues are $$$ and the processing is $$, and if you compare the cost to ground beef in the store its more, but the deer is supposed to be better for you, etc. We are hoping for a big buck or doe, ourselves.
Hope you have a great week!!

Congrats to Dave on the deer! My hubs got 2 doe last year (I won't even mention the HUGE buck that he had staring him in the face lol) and we did them ourselves. When I bought my Kitchenaid mixer 2 years ago, I got the grinder attachment-just for that purpose- and last year, I figure it paid for itself! We ground a lot of ours (except for the loin we cut into steaks)and put them in the ziploc freezer bags that use the pump. I had coupons for them and Walmart ended having a great deal on them so they were cheap. He has not been out hunting much yet, but they have been moving stands around like crazy. Hoping he gets at least 2 more this year :)

Kindra,
So glad Dave got a deer. Simon got one in bow season & we really like venison. He used to be a butcher years ago & has all the meat saws & a grinder for the burger so we don't have to pay for processing. Saves alot. Thanks for posting all the links. I am for sure going to check them out.
I love your reflector lamp.
hugs,
Pam

I have to say deer hunting is foreign to us suburbanites. But I am thrilled you will get many meals out them!!

Thanks for the heads up on those sites. On Cuber Monday, many many place offer free shipping. I saved a fortune last year. And also, if you join IGive.com, and designate a chairty to benefit from your online shopping at not cost to you, you can then check for great online offers to Igive customers - often fre shipping at this time of year.

Did you get snow??

WOW...two deers??? I never heard of that before. My husband went out a few times this year but had no luck. Here in New Brunswick, we are NOT allowed to shoot females. That is a big no-no. But I have been hearing hunters complain that there has not been alot of deer this year. Not sure if it has anything to with our long and hard winter. None the less, it doesn't bother me because I don't eat it. I just can't stand the taste to wild meat. One great bonus for you and your family though, you will not have to worry about running out of meat over the winter months :)))

How nice that you were able to meet up with Sarah again. It's always great fun meeting up with our Prim friends and having time away with just you. I love your light, I have two of them. One large and one small. I use the larger one at my desk.

Thanks for sharing once again some really great ideas...

Hope all is going well with you and your family :)

Now that's some big time excitement, Kindra! Dave must be thrilled about the deer. I'll be anxious to hear how the processing chores go...

I hope all's well and not too winter-like in your part of the world, my friend.

Todd and I are off tomorrow for our annual weekend away. A little relaxing and Christmas shopping is sounding heavenly right now. I'm hopeful that the deals will be plentiful again this year ... and I have all of my coupons in order.

Have a great weekend, my friend!
